fear of healing

Let’s be honest. Doing the inner work is not for everyone. It does require courage to open the lid to the subconscious. The reward however is immeasurable.

Students and clients sometimes ask me if there is a risk that too much will come up as they embark on the healing journey and start (or continue) to look inwards. If they will start scratching the surface and an uncontrollable ocean will rush out drowning them.

The answer is no.

What will come up is the exact amount that your psyche is able and ready to hold and process at that given moment. Sometimes we are scared to meet parts of ourselves that we are not ready to face. Truth is, if we are not ready, we cannot meet this part.

The survival instinct is strong and our psyche will, whether we like it or not, protect us at all times. If we cannot deal with a certain thing, it will stay in the subconscious until we can. It doesn’t mean we will not need to face uncomfortable emotion and perhaps even memories, because no healing can occur unless we face what once happened to us, including how it affected us on an emotional level.

That is why safety is key to healing. When we feel safe and held, things can come up so we can heal and integrate parts of us that were once ”lost”.

You might also find yourself on the other side of the spectra. You’re not at all afraid of too much coming up. You know there are things stored in your sub conscious that is hindering you in your life and you cannot wait to brake through. You WANT it to come up and out. You want to face it all. Heal it all. And you feel frustrated it is happening too slow.

In this case, you are likely to need more safety. Instead of digging deeper and increasing the despair of not healing quickly enough, I invite you to give yourself some sweet time. Take care of your body, your mind, your home, deepen your relationships with loved ones and connect with nature.

When you feel grounded and safe in your own skin as well as with your surroundings, the truly deep work can occur. See, we are intelligent beings, and until safety is there, the real stuff will not make its appearance.

When we reach for our lovely lavender smelling oil and lit a couple of candles, massaging our sacred body temple, touching our own skin in uttermost reverence it’s not to dismiss as minor. Letting our body sink into the warm embrace of a bath is not only a loving act of self care but also the fundament for healing.

Healing can feel scary and I invite you to embrace that feeling if it rings true in you. Hold yourself through that fear, validate it, as you simultaneously provide a safe and loving container for yourself. And if you feel ready to embark on a deeply healing journey, I welcome you with all my heart into Holistic Healing & Growth - my in-depth course in 7 powerful modules that will nurture and hold you in a safe space.

Healing can be likened to a flower. You would not try to force a flower to open. She has her own rhythm, as do you. And when the right circumstances are given - water, nutrients and sun - she will bloom. It’s the same with you – because you are meant to bloom!
